Today I’m praying very hard for Alfie’s family. I cannot imagine having to fight to keep my child alive. I can’t imagine being told someone else will make decisions about my child; someone who never welcomed into the world, rocked him, stayed up into the wee hours of morning with him when he had a fever, or sang a lullaby to him. I can’t image the helplessness his parents felt. The world prayed for them and Alfie. They were held in the hearts of so many people. And yet, this time love wasn’t enough.
I can’t express the rage I feel toward the people who allowed this to happen. What type of monsters could do this? How evil can a judge be to take a sick child from his parents and refuse to allow then to seek what they feel is best for their child? He obviously never held Alfie or played, “I’m going to get your piggies,” while Alfie giggled. No, I’m sure he never heard that sweet, innocent laughter.
Shame on you for robbing this family of precious time with their son. Shame on you that their last memories include fighting the courts, exhaustion and defeat. Shame on you, Mr Justice Hayden for slamming Alfie’s dad for posting videos of his son to gain support. According to Life News, “Justice Hayden said that he did not want to be reminded that Alfie is a human being and told attorneys for Alfie’s family that there is supposedly nothing left of his brain.”
Someone will need to break the news to Mr Hayden, and all the others involved, that they are not God. It will be a shock, naturally, but they must be made aware. How many more children will be treated inhumanely?
Our prayers from around the world will be heard today. May Alfie’s family know that they are held in the hearts of all of us as they grieve.
Welcome to heaven, Alfie.
