Some days God just amazes me. I don’t believe in co-incidences any more than God does.
Remember the horrible shootings in Vegas at a Jason Aldeen concert? I wanted to send a box of Angel Bumps books to help some folks with their grief. I called Aldeen’s fan club, tried to reach his agent, sent e-mails, all to no avail. I finally sent one to the country station in Nashville hoping it would reach him. I put it in God’s hands.
A few months later, I was signing books at the Corey Ave Art Show. A pleasant woman had a special request. She asked, “Can you sign this book?” Her next statement touched me deeply. “Write this:”
“After reading this book, please add your name & address. Next pass it along to someone who would be touched by the stories. They in turn will sign and add their address until the book is sent all over. When there is no room left for signatures, please mail it back to me.” She added her address.
I had chills and tears in my eyes. It was such a tender and simple act. “I’ve never had a request like that before.” She laughed. “Oh, my niece knows a lot of country artists in Nashville. Some of them were at that concert in Vegas with that shooter. I felt so bad for Jason. He’s such a kind man.
I told her how I’d been trying to get Angel Bumps to him right after the shootings. “I even tried the Bobby Jones Show
She said, “You’re not going to believe this, but my niece is best friends with Amy on Bobby’s show.” Whaatttt?!?!?!? I could have fallen over in shock.
“Are you my fairy Godmother? Maybe you’re my angel today. If you knew how much time I spent trying to find an address to ship a bunch of these books to… And here you are right in front of me!”
We hugged. She told me she’d let me know when the book circled back to her. I hope it does. I’d love to see how many people were touched and kept Angel Bumps in flight.
