I recently attended my second BNOW, Beautiful Network of Women, retreat in Texas. We came from all different walks of life, shapes and sizes, young and older. We had a therapist, a DJ, astronomer, musician, radio show host, nutritionist, herbal supplement expert, an interpreter for the deaf, a goddess instructor, writers, ministers and even a laughing yoga instructor, hair stylist, photographer….and more. As we gathered in the morning with a prayer to set the intention for the retreat, I was struck by the powerful feeling in the room. As we joined hands the buzz of energy filled the room. We were a sisterhood.
I wonder if we realize the power we hold as women in our everyday life. Power as in the ability to create a world that feeds our spirit. I have a favorite old story.
Years ago when God created the universe, He had a little chunk of wisdom left over. It radiated beauty and love.
He wondered where the best place would be so as not to be wasted. He thought about a mountain top, but decided people would climb the mountain and come across it. They might not appreciate the value of it.
Maybe deep in the sea would be a good place, but no they would find it there as well. Again, they might not appreciate it’s precious value.
Finally God said, “I will put a little piece of it in each person. When they search for something more and find it within, they will know how to use it.”
I believe we found our little chunks of wisdom at the retreat. Once we got still, amazing things showed up. Our shoulders dropped from our ears. Our smiles got brighter. Laughter ensued. We became one. Our spirits soared as we shared our stories. We went home lighter. Our souls were nourished.
I believe women need to take this time to regenerate. We run full speed head and take care of kids, husbands, parents, friends and work. We can get depleted so easily and not even realize it. I tend to get so worn out I can’t even make someone a cup of tea. It seems I have issues with boundaries (and so many other things).
I’m going to encourage women to take some time you invest in your body, mind and spirit. Come pray, laugh, and dance with us in October. God wants us to shine. It takes energy to shine bright. Someone has to light the way for others to follow. You know the song, “Here I Am Lord?” It just might be you He’s calling to light the way.
Join the Beautiful Network of Women FB community page for more updates. I hope to see you in October.
